How far is Kings Island from Express Inn & Suites in Lawrenceburg?

About 50 minutes and roughly 50 miles. Get on I-275 two miles from the hotel and follow it around the north side of Cincinnati, past the I-74 junction and through the northern suburbs, to I-71. A short run north on I-71 brings you to the Kings Island exits in Mason. The route skips downtown entirely, which helps on summer weekday mornings.

We will not pretend it is next door. Hotels right by the park are closer, but on summer weekends and fall event nights they fill early and price to match. If Kings Island is one piece of a bigger regional trip, with a Reds game, a casino night for the adults or a day at the Creation Museum, staying on the Indiana side can make the whole week simpler and keep the total driving reasonable.

What is there to do at Kings Island?

Kings Island is one of the best-known amusement parks in the Midwest, with a long list of roller coasters, including The Beast, its famous wooden coaster, alongside big steel rides, family rides, a children's area and a water park that is open in the warmer months.

The season typically runs from spring into fall. The water park operates in summer, Halloween Haunt takes over select evenings in the fall, and the park has run a holiday event in late November and December in recent years. Operating days and hours vary, so check the calendar on Kings Island's official site before you book your room.

Tickets, season passes and parking are sold through Kings Island's official site. Buying ahead usually beats waiting at the gate, and some ticket types are only available online.

What are some tips for a Kings Island day from Lawrenceburg?

Leave early. Lines for the headline coasters build quickly after the gates open. Eat breakfast as soon as it starts and plan to leave about an hour before the park's opening time so you are parked and through the gate with the first wave.

Parking is in large paid lots at the park entrance; take a photo of your lot section before you walk in. On hot days, a cooler in the car with drinks chilled overnight in your in-room mini-fridge makes the mid-afternoon break much better.

The drive home on I-275 at night is usually smooth. Most families are back in Lawrenceburg within an hour of leaving the lot, and the 24-hour front desk is there however late you roll in.

  • Buy tickets and parking through Kings Island's official site.
  • Pack water shoes and a towel if you will use the water park.
  • Chill drinks overnight in your mini-fridge for the car.
  • Check the park's operating calendar; spring and fall days vary.

Why stay at Express Inn & Suites for a Kings Island trip?

Families get a lot of room for the money. Up to 2 kids 18 and under stay free using existing bedding, the Two Queen Room sleeps 4, and the Deluxe King Studio Suite, our largest, pairs a king bed with a sofa bed. Cribs are free and rollaways are $10 per night.

Free hot breakfast every morning saves real money over a multi-day trip, and it runs until 9:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends for slower rest days. Guest laundry handles wet water-park clothes, and the indoor heated pool gives kids something to look forward to on the day between park visits.

Downtown Cincinnati is about 25 minutes from the hotel, so a Reds game at Great American Ball Park fits neatly on a non-park night. Rooms start from $69 per night, and parking is free.

Tips from the front desk

Start early

Plan on about an hour from our lot to the Kings Island gate. Leave an hour before opening to beat the first coaster lines.

Wash the water-park gear

Use the guest laundry to wash and dry swimsuits and towels so they are ready for the next day.

Build in a rest day

Two park days in a row wear kids out. Put a pool-and-downtown day in the middle of a longer stay.

Confirm the calendar

Kings Island's spring and fall schedule changes week to week. Check the park's official calendar before you book.
