HOTELS NEAR AURORA, IN
Express Inn & Suites in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is about 6 miles and 12 minutes from downtown Aurora by US-50. Visitors to Aurora book rooms from $69 per night with free hot breakfast, an indoor heated pool, free parking and pet-friendly rooms, and I-275 is just 2 miles from the hotel.
Getting here
Aurora is the next river town downstream from Lawrenceburg, and US-50 ties the two together. From the hotel, head west on Eads Parkway and stay on US-50 as it runs through Lawrenceburg and along the Ohio River bottoms. After about 6 miles you'll reach Aurora; turn toward the river for the historic downtown. Allow about 12 minutes in normal traffic.
Coming back after dinner in Aurora, simply take US-50 east toward Lawrenceburg. If you're heading on to Cincinnati or the airport the next day, that same road leads to I-275 exit 16, so the hotel is right on your way out. IN-56 begins in Aurora and follows the river south toward Rising Sun if you're continuing downriver.
1000 East Eads Parkway, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025
Aurora is a small city, and its overnight options are limited, especially on festival weekends and during wedding season when out-of-town guests all need beds at the same time. Staying 12 minutes up US-50 gives you a reliable room, a free hot breakfast and an indoor heated pool for the kids, plus quick access to I-275 for the trip home.
Families in town for a South Dearborn High School game or graduation, a reunion, or a weekend helping a relative move find the two-queen rooms and studio suites practical. Every room has a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker, so the leftovers from Sunday dinner at the family table don't go to waste, and the hotel's free parking means no one is circling an Aurora side street looking for a space.
The Aurora Farmers Fair is the big event of the year. It's known as the oldest street festival in Indiana, first held in 1908, and it takes over downtown each fall with a parade, carnival rides, exhibits, entertainment and food. Dates shift from year to year, so check the fair organizers' official listing before you book, and reserve early because rooms across Dearborn County fill that weekend.
The rest of the year, Aurora's draw is its history. Hillforest Victorian House Museum, an Italian Renaissance-style mansion completed in 1855 for industrialist Thomas Gaff, overlooks the river from the hill above downtown and is a National Historic Landmark. Veraestau, a historic estate cared for by Indiana Landmarks, sits on a bluff just outside town.
Downtown itself rewards an unhurried walk. The 19th-century storefronts and church steeples are a big part of why Aurora calls itself the "City of Spires," and the riverfront park at the foot of downtown is a pleasant place to watch barges work the Ohio.
Hillforest keeps seasonal hours, so confirm opening days before you drive over rather than assuming it's open on a weekday in winter. Parking downtown is mostly on the street and in small lots. On Farmers Fair weekend, several downtown streets close, so park at the edge of the festival and walk in.
If your day runs long, the hotel's 24-hour front desk means there's no rush to get back, and the pool stays open until 9:00 PM for one last swim. Breakfast runs until 9:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends, which is easy to make before a morning tour at Hillforest.
