HOTELS NEAR RISING SUN, IN
Express Inn & Suites in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is about 19 miles and 25 minutes upriver from Rising Sun by IN-56 and US-50. Guests visiting Rising Sun and Ohio County stay from $69 per night with free hot breakfast, an indoor heated pool, pet-friendly rooms and quick I-275 access for Cincinnati and CVG.
Getting here
From the hotel, take US-50 west through Lawrenceburg to Aurora, then pick up IN-56, which follows the Ohio River south past farm fields and river bottoms into Rising Sun. It's about 19 miles door to door and roughly 25 minutes without traffic. The river road is scenic but two-lane, with curves and few safe places to pass a slow truck.
To return, reverse the route: IN-56 back up to Aurora, then US-50 east into Lawrenceburg. If you're flying out after your visit, keep going on US-50 to I-275 exit 16, and CVG is about 15 to 20 minutes beyond the hotel.
1000 East Eads Parkway, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025
Rising Sun is the seat of Ohio County, Indiana's smallest county by area, and a quiet river town with a long history. Lodging in town is centered on the casino resort, which suits a gaming weekend but not every visitor. Families in for a wedding, a graduation or a funeral, or people with business at the county courthouse, often prefer a smaller hotel with a free hot breakfast, rooms that take pets of any size and an indoor pool for the kids.
The tradeoff is a 25-minute drive, and many guests find it worthwhile. In Lawrenceburg you're 2 miles from I-275, about 25 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and 5 minutes from Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg, so one stay covers Rising Sun, the city and a second casino if you want one.
Rising Star Casino Resort on the riverfront has gaming, a hotel, an RV park and an 18-hole golf course. Its owner has announced plans to move the casino's gaming license to northern Indiana, so confirm through the resort's official site what's open before you plan a trip around it.
History buffs should head downtown. The Ohio County Courthouse, a two-story Greek Revival building finished in 1845, is widely described as the oldest courthouse in continuous use in Indiana. Ohio County itself was carved out of Dearborn County in 1844, partly to settle a county-seat rivalry between Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg, so a stay in Lawrenceburg is a bit of a local history lesson. The Ohio County Historical Museum and the riverfront walk round out an easy afternoon.
Across the river is tiny Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, known for its historic general store. A ferry has run between the casino and Rabbit Hash in recent years, but check whether it's operating before counting on it; otherwise, reaching Rabbit Hash by car means a long loop through a bridge crossing.
IN-56 has no streetlights for long stretches, deer cross often, and river fog can settle in on cool mornings. If you're heading home after a late evening in Rising Sun, take it slow and keep your high beams ready. Services are sparse between Aurora and Rising Sun, so fill your tank before you leave Lawrenceburg.
Traveling with pets? The hotel accepts up to two dogs or cats of any size for $25 per pet per night, in rooms on the 3rd floor, with a pet relief area outside. On summer weekends, book early, since rooms along the river fill when the weather is good.
