HOTELS NEAR BROOKVILLE, IN
Express Inn & Suites at 1000 East Eads Parkway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is about 40 minutes and roughly 30 miles from Brookville and Brookville Lake by way of I-74 and US-52. Rooms start from $69 per night with free hot breakfast, an indoor heated pool, free parking and pet-friendly rooms for up to two dogs or cats.
Getting here
The simplest route uses the interstate for most of the trip. From the hotel, take US-50 to I-275 at exit 16, follow I-275 north to I-74, and head west back into Indiana. Leave I-74 at exit 169 (Harrison/Brookville) and take US-52 west through Cedar Grove and up the Whitewater River valley into Brookville. Plan on about 40 minutes.
Some locals prefer IN-1, which runs north from the Lawrenceburg area through St. Leon and on toward Cedar Grove before joining US-52 into Brookville. It is a two-lane country drive with hills and curves, pretty in fall and slower after dark. For the lake's Mounds and Quakertown recreation areas, allow another 10 to 20 minutes beyond Brookville depending on which side you are heading to.
1000 East Eads Parkway, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025
Brookville is about 40 minutes up the road, so we will be straightforward: we are not around the corner. What the hotel offers is a base that splits the difference, close enough for a full day at Brookville Lake or on the Whitewater River, and close to Cincinnati, CVG and the Lawrenceburg riverfront for the rest of the trip.
That matters for groups who want variety. A family reunion might spend Saturday at the lake and Sunday at the Cincinnati Zoo, and an anniversary weekend might pair a canal-town afternoon in Metamora with dinner near Hollywood Casino. Rooms start from $69 per night with breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi included, and the King Whirlpool Suite adds an in-room jetted tub for couples.
Lake and river days also come with dogs, wet towels and sandy kids. Up to two pets of any size stay for $25 per pet per night in third-floor pet rooms, the guest laundry handles swimsuits and towels, and the indoor pool is open until 9:00 PM if the kids are not done swimming.
Brookville Lake is the headline. The Indiana DNR manages two state recreation areas on it, Mounds and Quakertown, which together cover more than 16,000 acres around a reservoir of about 5,260 acres. Boating, fishing, camping and trails are the main draws; check the DNR's Brookville Lake page for current beach, bridge and water-quality notices before you go, since some facilities have had closures.
The Whitewater River runs through town, and paddling outfitters in the valley offer canoe and kayak trips in the warmer months. Brookville itself is the Franklin County seat, with a historic downtown, and Metamora, about 8 miles west, is a restored canal town where the Whitewater Canal State Historic Site keeps a working stretch of the old waterway.
The canal ties the trip back to our end of the map. The Whitewater Canal, built between 1836 and 1847, once ran 76 miles from Hagerstown down to Lawrenceburg, passing through Brookville and Metamora along the way, so a stay near the hotel puts you at the southern end of the same historic route.
Eat breakfast at the hotel first; it runs until 9:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends, which still puts you on the water before late morning. Pack drinks and snacks in the in-room mini-fridge the night before, or pick up a few items at the lobby sundry shop on your way out.
If you are towing a boat, ask the front desk about trailer parking before you book. The Whitewater valley is especially pretty in October, and the IN-1 return route makes a scenic loop if you go up on I-74 and US-52 in the morning.
