HOTELS NEAR THE ARK ENCOUNTER
Express Inn & Suites at 1000 East Eads Parkway in Lawrenceburg, IN is about 45 to 50 minutes from the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky, mostly on I-275 and I-75. Rooms start from $69 per night with free hot breakfast, free parking and an indoor pool, and the Creation Museum is just 15 minutes away.
Plan on 45 to 50 minutes each way, roughly 50 miles. Take I-275 toward Kentucky across the Ohio River, follow it past the airport to I-75, then head south on I-75 to exit 154 in Williamstown. The Ark Encounter parking lot is just off the exit on KY-36. After the first 2 miles to the interstate, it is highway the whole way.
We will be straight with you: there are hotels closer to the ark itself. What staying here gives you is a base that works for the whole trip, not just one day. The Creation Museum is 15 minutes away, downtown Cincinnati is about 25 minutes, and CVG airport is roughly 15 to 20 minutes. If the Ark is one stop on a longer visit, Lawrenceburg cuts the total driving.
It also means your evenings are not spent in a quiet interchange town. Historic downtown Lawrenceburg, the Ohio River levee and a handful of local restaurants are a few minutes from the hotel when you get back.
The centerpiece is a full-size ark built to the dimensions described in Genesis, about 510 feet long, with three decks of exhibits covering the flood account, how the animals might have been cared for, and life aboard the ship. It is a lot of walking, mostly on ramps between decks.
Outside the ark, the grounds include Ararat Ridge Zoo with animal encounters, a large restaurant, play areas and seasonal programs. Most families spend five or six hours, and some stay until close.
Tickets are sold through the Ark Encounter's official site, and combination tickets that include the Creation Museum have been offered. Check current hours before you go, since they change by season.
You park in a large lot off KY-36, then ride a shuttle bus to the ark. The lot charges for parking, so check the current fee on the attraction's official site, and build in time for the shuttle at both ends of the day, especially on summer Saturdays and holiday weeks.
The walk from the shuttle drop-off and the outdoor zoo are exposed to the weather, so bring sunscreen and water in summer and layers in spring and fall. The ark itself is covered, which makes it a reasonable plan on a rainy day.
Leave the hotel by about 8:30 or 9:00 AM after breakfast and you will arrive near opening. If you head back by late afternoon, there is still time for a swim before the indoor pool closes at 9:00 PM.
Hot breakfast is free every morning, so you can eat before getting in the car instead of stopping along I-75. Breakfast runs until 9:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends, which fits an early departure for Williamstown.
The Two Queen Room sleeps 4, and the Deluxe King Studio Suite, our largest room, adds a sofa bed to a king for up to 4 guests. Up to 2 kids 18 and under stay free using existing bedding, and every room has a microwave and mini-fridge for road snacks. Parking is free, and our lot is large; church groups arriving by bus should ask the front desk about bus parking before booking.
Coming back after a long day, the 24-hour front desk, the guest laundry for dusty clothes and the lobby sundry shop for forgotten toothbrushes make the evening easy. Rooms start from $69 per night.
Tips from the front desk
Free hot breakfast runs until 9:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends. Eat first and you will reach Williamstown ready to walk.
Ask the front desk about bus, truck or trailer parking before you arrive. The lot is large, but oversized space should be confirmed.
The Ark Encounter runs shuttle buses from its parking lot to the ark. On busy days, build that into both ends of your visit.
CVG airport is about 15 to 20 minutes from the hotel, so fly-in families can pick up a rental car and be checked in before dinner.
